Introduction

IJMAR is a refereed international journal in electronic format and printed to order. The journal is published by the Society of Martial Arts. The Editorial Board provides overall control of the journal including the technical management of the Journal. The opinions expressed in the papers of this journal are that of its contributors and the Society of Martial Arts or the Editorial Board would not share any of them and would not knowingly publish any material that will have any bearing on an individual or an institute.

Editorial Board

Chairman: Prof. Eugene de Silva Ph.D., FRSA – UK/USA

Editors

Prof. Joseph Connolly  FRSA - USA

Dr. Peter Lewis Ph.D., FRSA - UK

Publication policy

Papers for publication in the journal must meet normal standards for a refereed publication; this is ensured by a review process involving three referees. The referees are selected internationally and not necessarily form the permanent board of members, according to their expertise. After the review a decision will be made on

a)      to accept the paper

b)      request for changes to the paper

c)      decline the publication

and the comments will be passed to the author  accordingly.

Each year there will be four issues within one volume. Each issue is limited to five papers.

IJMAR is a Journal of Record, and papers may not be removed or altered (except for any editorial changes in format that are needed to accommodate new technologies) once publication is made. The Society of Martial Arts is committed to making all papers available indefinitely on the web and the copies of the Journal will be distributed to relevant archives and libraries annually.

Submission requirements

Papers must be submitted in a suitable form for publication. This includes standard word-processor formats. Of these the preferred format is the latest version of Microsoft Word. The documents may incorporate figures or attach separate figures with clear references.

Figures are required as bit-mapped images in GIF, TIFF or JPEG format, or original photographs or printed figures can be scanned for a small charge.

The suggested scan formats for different types of image are:

·         Colour photographs and drawings - 24-bit colour saved as a JPEG image

·         Black-and-white photographs - 8 bit greyscale saved as a JPEG image

·         Black-and-white drawings - 1-bit monochrome saved as a GIF image

Please note that any animation, video and sound files may take a very long time to load and at the Editorial board will decide on the suitability of such material for publication.

There is no limit to the number of words/pages per paper. The Editorial Board reserves the right to request for changes or reduction. Your paper should be e-mailed to the Chairman of the Editorial Board with a covering note stating your affiliations and a statement confirming that the paper has not been published elsewhere or submitted for publication in any other journals. It is the authors’ responsibility to ensure that all permissions are received from relevant parties including co-authors before the submission.

Legislation and Copyright

By submitting a paper, authors give their implicit permission, under the UK Data Protection Act, for their names to be made available in electronic form. Currently, the copyright of all submitted papers is retained by the authors, who, by submission of the paper, grant the Journal an exclusive, permanent, irrevocable licence to publish the information in electronic form.

Papers may not be submitted to IJMAR if they have already been published elsewhere, and authors may be required to confirm that this requirement is met.

Papers may be submitted to printed journals after they have been published in IJMAR (either in preprint or final form), providing the following conditions are met:

·         the publishers of the other journal are aware and accept that it has been published in IJMAR

·         the other journal is not available in electronic form,

·         the publishers of the other journal undertake to insert the following statement at the beginning of the paper:

"This paper has previously been published in the International Journal of Martial Arts Research, an electronic journal published by the Society of Martial Arts, UK. The journal can be accessed at “ http://www.societyofmartialarts.com.”

Privacy and Data Protection

Data Protection

User registration information is stored in a database, and is subject to UK Data Protection Act. This gives individuals the right to examine the information that is held about them. Registered users may request this information below.

Privacy

IJMAR follows a number of principles that are designed to protect your privacy. You will need a username and a password to view papers.  Some additional information we ask is used to assist us in developing IJMAR for future and to offer you additional services

We make all reasonable efforts to maintain the security of your personal information, and to protect it from loss, misuse, unauthorized access or disclosure, alteration, or destruction.

Subject to the choice that you make, we may use your personal details to send you various information by electronic or paper mail. This may include mail from other organizations with an interest in relevant fields. This will be done without releasing your personal information to other organizations, and you may choose not to be sent such information.

You may review all personal data that we hold about you by clicking here.

If you have any concerns that your personal information has not been handled in accordance with the above principles, please contact e.desilva@btinternet.com

We also use a cookie (a small piece of information stored on your computer) to hold temporary information about your session with the Journal (largely to avoid having to require you to log in for every page). The cookie does not record any personal information beyond you username. If you choose to disable cookies in your browser configuration we try to use an alternative, but less reliable, mechanism to retain username information, but you may find that you need to login repeatedly in this case. If you experience this problem, we suggest that you enable cookies, at least those that are returned to the server that originally sent them.

We use a 'Web bug' (a small invisible image that is essentially used as a mechanism to send information back to the server) to track which pages and which advertisements are viewed. The only personal information that is sent back to our server is your IP address, which is recorded to identify accesses from the Society of Martial Arts domain or from search engines, so that advertiser charges can be managed correctly.
